As a student in this shop, there are a few safety rules you must observe. Rules will be kept to a minimum, but those we do keep are for a definite reason. Knowing the reason for each rule should make it a lot easier to remember and observe that rule.

1. All Classroom Expectations/Rules apply in the shop.

2.      Students must never enter the shop unless the teacher is present.

3.      Power equipment must never be operated unless a teacher is in the shop.

4.      Do not run in the shop.

5.      “Horseplay” will not be tolerated in the shop.

6.      Use care and common sense when using any sharp tool-always keep hands and fingers behind the tool’s cutting edge.

7.      Protective equipment, such as (safety glasses, etc.) MUST be worn when in the shop.

8.      Tools must be used properly and for their intended purposes.

9. Appropriate clothing(no baggy clothes, no open toe shoes, etc.) for shop environment must be worn, long hair and jewelry must be restrained or removed.

10. Never use any machine until you personally have been given instruction by the teacher about the use of that machine.

11.  Report any damaged/defective tools or machines to the teacher.

12.  If you cut or scratch yourself, report it to the teacher and receive treatment.

13.  Keep benches and floors clean, replace tools as soon as you are finished and place scrap in proper bins.

14.  When finished with oil or paint soaked rags, dispose of them in the bin marked Oily Rags.

15.  In the event of a school fire drill, or an actual fire in the shop, WALK out quickly and silently.

16.  Welding helmets and gloves must be worn during any welding or forging process.

17.  Only one operator per machine is permitted.

18.  Use compressed air with caution-wear eye protection, direct air away from eyes, skin and any opening in the body. Beware of flying particles.

Discipline plan when rules are not followed:
1. Verbal warning
2. Lose of point(s)
3. Removal to hall/office/detention
4. Teacher/student meeting
5. Parent/student/teacher meeting
6. Removal from class/administration action

*If referred to the office, you will be receiving a detention and a email/phone call to your parents.
**Mr. Garten has the right to skip to whichever consequence deemed necessary based on the situation
***Shop classes have a daily participation point(s) system, infractions will result in lose of point(s)
